SAN FRANCISCO -- Two key members of the San Francisco 49ers took to Twitter late Sunday night to express their disdain for the actions of some in the crowd at Candlestick Park in the team's 32-20 win over Arizona.
Late in the game, Arizona standout defensive end Calais Campbell went down and was being attended to for several minutes. He was taken off the field on a stretcher with some tingling in his extremities. As the game continued to be delayed and with a 49ers win in hand, the stadium started to empty. However, some of the remaining crowd did the wave, complete with the requisite cheering.
Several 49ers offensive players, who remained on the field while Campbell was being examined, gestured to the crowd to halt the wave.
After the game, 49ers CEO Jed York tweeted this:
To say I'm disappointed some fans did the wave this afternoon while @Campbell93 was down is understatement. Hope you get well soon Calais

San Francisco offensive tackle Joe Staley also called out fans.
To all the fans that did the wave while a player was on the field in pain getting carted off, I was embarrassed for you. Very disrespectful

In the locker room after the game, one San Francisco starting offensive player said he didn't think fans were doing the wave with malice and that he didn't think fans knew the potentially serious nature of the injury. Still, the player said he wished fans held off on the act. He said he would have hated to be in Campbell's situation and see some fans react that way.
On Monday, the Cardinals reported that Campbell was released from a Bay Area hospital and has returned to Arizona.
Campbell addressed his injury with a tweet to his followers Monday morning as well.
I want to give a big thank you for all the support and kind words today. I am feeling good and anxious to return! #appreciatethelove
