ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Daniel Corso's trip to St. Louis might last a
little longer than he thought.
| | | Blues defenseman Vladimir Chebaturkin flattens Jim Cummins. |
Corso, who was called up from the minors on Monday, scored the
game-winning goal Tuesday as the Blues beat the Anaheim Mighty
Ducks 1-0. The goal was Corso's first in the NHL and helped St.
Louis extend its unbeaten streak to five games.
"It's great to get the game-winner," Corso said. "I didn't expect to play that much."
But with Tyson Nash, Lubos Bartecko and Scott Young out with
injuries, the Blues gave Corso plenty of ice time. He was playing
on the power play when he scored.
"I was shocked to be on the power play," Corso admitted.
Corso took advantage of the opportunity when he shoved the
rebound of Michal Handzus' shot under Guy Hebert's pads at 14:28 of
the second period. Jochen Hecht also assisted on the play.
Blues goalie Roman Turek made the goal stand up by stopping all
10 of Anaheim's shots in the third period. Turek made 19 saves
overall in recording his fourth shutout and 13th of his career.
St. Louis leads the league with a 1.78 goals-against average.
The Blues have allowed two goals or fewer in 16 of 25 games and are
14-1-1 in those games.
"I was just waiting for shots," Turek said. "The defense was unbelievable."
Hebert said Turek came up big when he was needed.
"We had some good shots in the third period," Hebert said. "Roman made some good saves."
Cummins gave Turek credit for drawing the penalty that led to Corso's power-play goal. The goal came with Anaheim's Jim Cummins was off for goalie interference.
"I kind of bumped him and he did a triple summersault," Cummins said. "He really played it up. The guys in the penalty box said it was not a penalty."
The Blues, who won the first two games of a four-game homestand,
are 11-1-1 at home. The only loss was a 4-3 setback to the
Vancouver Canucks on Nov. 21.
Hebert, who made 31 saves, was selected as the game's first star.
Game notes Anaheim's Teemu Selanne had his four-game scoring streak snapped. ... Turek is 5-0-2 against the Ducks. ... Anaheim has lost four games in a row on the road. ... The Blues, who lead the league in penalty killing (12 goals allowed in 124 attempts) killed off all four of Anaheim's power-play opportunities. ... The Blues outshot the Ducks 27-9 in the first two periods.
