PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Bob
Boughner broke his right wrist in Friday night's game against the
Edmonton Oilers and will be sidelined six to eight weeks.
Boughner collided with Oilers defenseman Igor Ulanov at the
Edmonton blue line just 2:19 into the first period.
One of the more physical players on the Penguins' defense, the
6-foot, 206-pound Boughner has 33 penalty minutes without a
point in 15 games this season.
Pittsburgh acquired the 29-year-old defenseman from Nashville
before last season's trade deadline for minor-league defenseman
Pavel Skrbek.
Taken in the second round of the 1989 draft by the Detroit Red
Wings, Boughner has eight goals, 25 assists and 820 penalty
minutes in 344 games with Buffalo, Nashville and the Penguins.
In response to the injuries, Andrew Ference was recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL on Sunday by the Penguins.
Ference, 21, had two goals and 20 penalty minutes in 30 games
with the Penguins last season. He has one goal and 12 assists in 15
games in the AHL this season.
The Penguins play Monday night at Colorado.
