PITTSBURGH -- Mario Lemieux had three assists and a goal in
Pittsburgh's 5-3 win over Ottawa on Saturday to become the 10th NHL
player with 1,500 points, and teammate Jaromir Jagr scored twice to
reach 1,000 points.
Lemieux, the Hall of Famer and Penguins owner who ended his
3½-year retirement Wednesday, reached 1,500 at 1:28 of the third
period. He collected the puck at the right side of the net and
quickly passed it to Jagr in the slot for Jagr's second goal and
Lemieux's third assist of the game.
Lemieux added an empty-net goal with 13 seconds left, spinning
in a bad-angle shot from the left circle even as center Alexei
Yashin tried to swat away the shot.
Lemieux has seven points -- two goals and five assists -- in the
two games of his comeback, including assists on four goals by Jagr.
Lemieux had a goal and two assists Wednesday in a 5-0 victory over
the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Jagr is the 59th player with 1,000 points. He reached that mark
on a goal at 5:55 of the second period. Lemieux took Hans Jonsson's
feed behind the net and made a wraparound pass to the crease, where
Jagr put it past goaltender Jani Hurme. Jagr has eight goals in
seven games.
Jagr, a four-time NHL scoring champion, had two goals and two
assists Wednesday against Toronto.
Jagr scored his 400th goal Nov. 18 at Colorado.
