EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. New Jersey Devils right wing
Alexander Mogilny, whose 31 goals were tied for fifth best in the
NHL entering Friday's action, will be sidelined almost a week with
a pulled stomach muscle.
Mogilny and center Bobby Holik (knee) were scratched from the
Devils lineup for Friday night's game against the Pittsburgh
Penguins.
Mogilny will not accompany the Devils on the road for games at
Buffalo on Saturday night and Toronto on Monday.
"I'm not going to let it bother me," Mogilny said Friday
night. "There is nothing I can do about it right now. Obviously
I'm disappointed, but it's no big deal."
Mogilny, who has 28 assists and a team-high 59 points, was
injured when checked into the boards in a game at Ottawa on Feb. 8.
He missed a game against the Penguins two days later and then
played the next two, noting he probably should not have played
against Ottawa on Wednesday night.
"I thought it would be fine," Mogilny said. "It was one of
those things you get warmed up and think you'll feel good. That
wasn't the case."
Mogilny also sat out the All-Star Game earlier this month
because of an injured hip.
Holik missed his first game of the season because of a knee
injury sustained on Sunday against the New York Rangers. The
11-year veteran has missed only five regular-season games over the
last four-plus seasons.
Devils All-Star defenseman Scott Niedermayer missed his fourth
straight game with an injury to his right knee, also sustained
against Ottawa on Feb. 8. Defenseman Brian Rafalski, who hurt his
left shoulder in the same game, returned to the lineup on Friday. Send this story to a friend
