DALLAS -- The Dallas Stars added some more offense on
Monday, signing free agent right wing Donald Audette to play
alongside one of their top centers.
Audette, who had career-highs of 34 goals and 45 assists with
Atlanta and Buffalo last season, will team with either Mike Modano,
Joe Nieuwendyk or Pierre Turgeon, a six-time All-Star who signed
with the Stars on Sunday.
"The signing of Donald Audette gives us greater depth with our
group of forwards," general manager Bob Gainey said. "He has
distinct offensive talents and the drive and competitiveness to
compete in difficult offensive areas."
Brett Hull led Dallas in goals last season while playing right
wing, mostly on a line with Modano. Hull is a free agent and Dallas
has been slow to negotiate with him.
Audette, 32, received a four-year contract. Turgeon was signed
for five seasons. Dallas also signed defensive-minded forward Rob DiMaio for three years on Sunday.
The 5-foot-8, 190-pound Audette had 79 points last season while
playing 76 games for Atlanta and Buffalo. He was acquired by the
Sabres, his original team, near the trade deadline and helped them
with three goals and six assists in 13 playoff games.
Over his 11-year career, Audette has 235 goals and 212 assists
for 447 points with 510 penalty minutes. He broke into the NHL in
1990-91 and had 31 goals the next season.
