Hurting Flyers lose Roenick for 2-4 weeks

Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA -- Jeremy Roenick, the Flyers' leading scorer, will miss two to four weeks with a knee injury, but will be back for the playoffs, team doctors said.

Team orthopedic surgeon Art Bartolozzi diagnosed Roenick with a tear in his right knee after an MRI exam.

"The doctors said he should look at four weeks, but Jeremy says two. But from our standpoint, at least we know we're going to have him for the playoffs," said Flyers general manager Bob Clarke.

Roenick went down in the second period of Monday night's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning after a hard hip check by Ben Clymer.

"I was just trying to wind it up and I ran out of room to the outside," Roenick said. "I tried to cut inside like I do a lot of times -- I probably do that once a game -- and he just happened to cut me off."

After the hit, Clarke complained that officials did not call a penalty on the sequence.

Roenick, who was helped off the ice, said he is already walking on the knee again and will start rehabilitation immediately.

Roenick, acquired as a free agent in July, has 64 points this season. His 20 goals and 44 assists place him third in the league in both categories.

The Flyers will also have to do without their No. 2 center, Keith Primeau, who suffered bruised ribs in a hit from Tampa Bay's Shane Willis.

Clarke said Primeau will likely miss this weekend's games, but return next week.
