Burke, Iginla, Roy named Pearson finalists

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Sean Burke was one of three players announced Tuesday as finalists for the NHL's Lester B. Pearson Award for the most outstanding player during the regular season.

The others were Calgary forward Jarome Iginla and Colorado goalie Patrick Roy.

Named after the former prime minister of Canada, the trophy goes to the top vote-getter in balloting by members of the NHL Players Association.

It has been awarded since the 1970-71 season, when Phil Esposito won. Coyotes managing partner Wayne Gretzky won an unprecedented five times.

The winner will receive the trophy at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto on June 20.

Burke appeared in 60 games this season, posting a 33-21-6 record with a career-best 2.29 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage. The 14-year veteran had a career-high five shutouts while helping Phoenix secure a playoff berth and earn 95 standings points, second in franchise history.

Iginla was the NHL's only 50-goal scorer this season, with 52, and had 44 assists to win his first league scoring title.

Roy (32-23-8) led the league with nine shutouts and a 1.94 goals-against average, finishing as the NHL's all-time leader in victories (516) with his seventh consecutive season of more than
