Just 10 days later, on his 25th birthday, Iginla will become a restricted free agent ready to cash in on his outstanding season.

Iginla won the scoring title with 96 points and a league-high 52 goals. In the last 50 years, 11 players were scoring champions and MVPs in the same year.

The other Hart finalists are goalies Patrick Roy of the Colorado Avalanche and Jose Theodore of the Montreal Canadiens.

Roy, 36, was 32-23-8, led the league in goals-against average (1.94) and shutouts (9), both career bests, and finished second in save percentage (.925).

Theodore, 25, was the player most responsible for getting Montreal into the playoffs for the first time since 1998. He was 30-24-10, with a 2.11 GAA and a .931 save percentage.

The only goalie to earn the Hart in the last 40 years was Dominik Hasek, who won in 1997 and 1998 with Buffalo.

Finalists for the Norris Trophy for top defenseman are previous winners Nicklas Lidstrom (2001) and Chris Chelios (1996, 1993, 1989) of Detroit, and Rob Blake (1998) of the Avalanche.

Lidstrom is also up for the Lady Byng Trophy, as the league's most sportsmanlike player, for a fourth straight year. Also nominated are Carolina's Ron Francis, and Colorado's Joe Sakic, last year's winner.

Roy, who last won the Vezina Trophy 10 years ago, Theodore and Burke are the finalists for the top goalie award as picked by the league's 30 general managers.

Calgary's Dany Heatley of the Atlanta Thrashers, who led all rookies with 67 points including 26 goals, is up against teammate Ilya Kovalchuk and Florida's Kristian Huselius for the Calder Trophy as top rookie.

The Frank J. Selke Trophy for top defensive forward will be given to either Mike Peca of the Islanders, Jere Lehtinen of the Stars, or Craig Conroy of the Flames.

The coach of the year nominees are Bob Francis of Phoenix, Robbie Ftorek of Boston and Brian Sutter of Chicago, who won the Jack Adams Award in 1991 when he coached St. Louis.
