SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Phoenix Coyotes signed 2001 first-round draft pick Fredrik Sjostrom to a multiyear contract Friday.

No financial terms were disclosed.

Sjostrom, drafted No. 11 last year, is in the Phoenix area attending the team's strength and conditioning camp. The 19-year-old right wing had 19 goals and 31 assists in 58 games, accumulating 51 penalty minutes, with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League last season.

In 2000-01, Sjostrom played 31 games with Vastra Frolunda in his native Sweden, registering two goals, three assists and six penalty minutes.
