ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Blues defenseman and captain Chris Pronger underwent a third surgery on his left wrist Monday, sidelining the former NHL MVP indefinitely.
The surgery, performed by Dr. Tom Graham at the Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore, included removing a plate from one of the forearm bones, releasing scar tissue and removing a small amount of bone to promote better range of motion.
The Blues have no timetable for Pronger's return. He had been scheduled to return in January from prior wrist surgery and a torn knee ligament.
The 28-year-old Pronger, the league's MVP two seasons ago, injured the wrist last February when he was hit by a puck, and a metal plate was inserted to aid healing.
Pain limited his ability to use his stick and he had a second operation on the wrist in May.
Last season, Pronger played in 78 games and was second on the Blues with 40 assists. He led the team with 161 blocked shots while averaging nearly 30 minutes per game. |
