Stars rule out concussion for Modano

Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA -- Dallas Stars center Mike Modano left Tuesday night's 2-2 tie against the Philadelphia Flyers early in the first period after being checked hard into the boards by Jeremy Roenick.

Modano fell to the ice, and stayed there for a few minutes, before being helped to the locker room by teammates. Modano complained of headaches, but the Stars ruled out a concussion. He didn't return, but could be ready for Dallas' game at Detroit on Thursday.

Roenick received a five-minute penalty for the hit 5:20 into the game.

Modano leads the Stars, the NHL's top team, with 35 points on 13 goals and 22 assists. He gave Dallas a 1-0 lead against the Flyers and former Stars coach Ken Hitchcock with a goal just 29 seconds in.
