Hitchcock says LeClair may return by mid-February

Associated Press

VOORHEES, N.J. -- Flyers forward John LeClair skated for the first time since injuring his shoulder Nov. 27 and expects to return to the team by the end of February.

"I felt pretty good," LeClair said Wednesday. "It wasn't intense by any means. I was just skating by myself, but it's a start."

LeClair was injured when he fell awkwardly into the boards after a collision with Pittsburgh defenseman Marc Bergevin. He had surgery in early December and was expected to miss 10-to-12 weeks.

Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock said LeClair could be back by the middle of next month. He noted that LeClair would miss only two more weeks of games because of the All-Star break.

"That's great news for us," Hitchcock said. "He's an impact player and we're looking forward to having him back."

Later in the day, the Flyers acquired forward Jamie Wright from the Calgary Flames in exchange for future considerations.

"All three of our coaches have had Jamie at different times during his career," said general manager Bob Clarke in a statement. "They felt that Jamie would be a good utility player, along the lines of Joe Sacco. He can play either wing, is a good worker and is an intelligent player. The coaches liked what Jamie could bring to our club."

Wright, 26, recorded four points (two goals, two assists) and 12 penalty minutes in 19 regular season games for Calgary this season. He also posted three points (two goals, one assist) in three games for the Flames' American Hockey League affiliate, the Saint John Flames.

"All three of our coaches have had Jamie at different times during his career," Philadelphia general manager Bob Clarke said. "They felt that Jamie would be a good utility player, along the lines of Joe Sacco. He can play either wing, is a good worker and is an intelligent player. The coaches liked what Jamie could bring to our club."
