Associated Press

OTTAWA -- Pavel Bure returned to the New York Rangers' lineup Monday night, just barely two months after having arthroscopic surgery on both knees.

Bure, who missed 31 games, had torn cartilage in his left knee repaired Dec. 16, 10 days after injuring his knee in the Rangers' 4-1 loss at Buffalo. He also had exploratory surgery on his right knee at the same time.

In the game Monday, Bure had an assist as the Rangers lost 3-2 to the Ottawa Senators.

Bure, who has played in six NHL All-Star games, missed the first three games of the season because of illness. He also had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Sept. 26.

The league's leading goal scorer in 2000 and 2001, Bure has 21 points in 27 games this season. He had a team-leading 14 goals at the time of his injury.

Bure, who has also played for Vancouver and Florida, has 770 career points -- including 432 goals -- in 690 regular-season games.

The Rangers got defenseman Brian Leetch back Friday night after he missed 31 games because of a severely bruised ankle.
