Stars add depth, versatility with Hagman acquisition

FRISCO, Texas -- The Dallas Stars added some depth up front Monday, acquiring left wing Niklas Hagman from the Florida Panthers for a seventh-round pick in 2007.

A third-round pick of the Panthers in 1999, Hagman has two goals and four assists in 30 games this season.

"Niklas adds versatility and depth to our organization," Stars general manager Doug Armstrong said. "We feel this acquisition will help our overall roster with the condensed schedule we play from now until the end of the regular season."

Hagman recorded career highs of 18 assists and 28 points as a rookie in 2001-02. He also had a goal and two assists in four games for his native Finland in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

The 26-year-old Hagman has 30 goals and 80 points in 263 career games.

Also on Monday, the Stars assigned left wing Mathias Tjarnqvist to Iowa of the American Hockey League. Tjarnqvist did not record a point in 12 games with Dallas this season.
