Predators, D Hamhuis agree to four-year, $8M contract

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Nashville Predators agreed to terms Thursday with defenseman Dan Hamhuis on a four-year contract worth $8 million.

The 23-year-old defenseman had not been in training camp with the Predators, but negotiations resumed earlier this week. He will earn $1.5 million this season, $1.75 million in 2007-08, $2.25 million in 2008-09 and $2.5 million in 2009-10.

Hamhuis led the Predators in average ice time last season and
was one of only two to play in all 82 games. He ranked second with
a plus-11 rating and had career-highs in assists (31) and points

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound defenseman also led Team Canada's
defensemen in scoring at the 2006 World Championships with one goal
and four assists.
