Ottawa Senators to host 2012 All-Stars

OTTAWA -- The Ottawa Senators will host the 2012 All-Star Game.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman made the announcement in Ottawa.

The game will be played Jan. 29, 2012, at Scotiabank Place, with the festivities beginning a few days earlier on Jan. 26.

It will be the first time Ottawa has hosted the game.

The announcement is the culmination of a pledge Senators owner Eugene Melnyk made when he bought the team in 2003, promising to get Ottawa an All-Star Game.

"Our great Ottawa winter traditions will be shared with the NHL community, including skating on the Rideau Canal . . . " Senators president Cyril Leeder said.

The Carolina Hurricanes will host the 2011 All-Star Game in Raleigh, N.C.
