Evgeni Malkin out

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin sat out the pregame skate due to a nagging knee injury and didn't play Monday night in a 2-1 win against the New Jersey.

Coach Dan Bylsma said the injury was the type that needed rest in order to properly heal.

Malkin, injured Thursday night against Atlanta, also sat out Pittsburgh's 7-2 victory at Columbus on Saturday night.

The former NHL scoring champion has eight goals and 22 points in 26 games.
