News: 4 days agoTkachuk and the Senators have yet to come to terms on a new deal, but the two sides have continued to engage in negotiations, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Spin: Tkachuk will undoubtedly miss the beginning of training camp, but it's clear that he and the Sens are determined to come to terms on a new contract sooner rather than later. The restricted free agent has racked up 60 goals, 125 points, 693 shots and 725 hits while averaging 17:41 of ice time in 198 games through his first three NHL seasons.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: In terms of hits and shots on goal, there is an argument to be made that Tkachuk is one the most valuable players in the league from a fantasy standpoint. The soon-to-be 22-year-old is fresh off a season featuring 17 goals, 36 points, 220 shots, 10 power-play points and 248 hits in just 56 games. If that's not enough, there is additional hope for improvement in the goal department in 2021-22 given that Tkachuk's shooting percentage a season ago was 7.7 percent -- the lowest of his three-year career. The Senators remain a rebuilding team, and all this production will likely come with a terrible plus-minus rating attached, but Tkachuk brings a skill set to the fantasy table that few others can match.
