News: 20 hours agoLankinen cleared the league's COVID-19 protocols and returned to practice Monday.
Spin: Lankinen saw the bulk of the starts last season as he posted a 17-14-5 record with a 3.01 GAA and two shutouts. The addition of Vezina Trophy winner Marc-Andre Fleury in the offseason figures to see Lankinen relegated to the No. 2 spot this year, assuming he can edge out Malcolm Subban and Collin Delia for the job. As such, Lankinen figures to offer low-end fantasy value considering Fleury generally prefers a heavier workload.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Lankinen was thrown into his first ever NHL action as a rookie last year. Despite finishing with a respectable 17-14-5 record, his 3.01 GAA and .909 save percentage left something to be desired. That said, with Marc-Andre Fleury now in town and technically ahead of Lankinen on the depth chart, it could be a nice opportunity for the Finn to stay fresher while playing a little less -- not to mention receiving some veteran guidance along the way. It's hard to recommend either netminder over the other from a fantasy standpoint until we see how the playing time shakes out, so managers interested in either may want to consider drafting both, if possible.
