ESPN Fantasy Projection: Prior to the 2022-23 campaign, Karlsson managed 27 goals and 142 points in 211 games in his prior four seasons combined. He finished last season with 25 goals and 101 points in 82 games, becoming the first defensemen since Brian Leetch in 1991-92 to crack the century mark. It was a magical year on numerous fronts that culminated in a Norris Trophy, but it's almost certainly unsustainable. Karlsson's 12 percent shooting percentage was by far the highest of his career, while his minus-30 rating was his worst mark since the 2010-11 season. Karlsson was moved in August, being traded to the Penguins. As a result, his plus-minus rating should improve in 2023-24, but his offensive numbers, which will almost certainly still be great, will likely drop significantly. Karlsson should be viewed as a No. 1 fantasy rearguard in all formats, but don't expect 100-plus points again.
