Source: Milan Michalek avoids ban

Ottawa Senators winger Milan Michalek will not face discipline after he appeared to kick New York Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi with his skate in the Rangers' 3-2 win in Ottawa Monday, a source said.

It was reported earlier that the league would review the incident, which occurred after Ottawa scored a controversial goal in the game's final minute.

League disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan issued a warning to Senators general manager Bryan Murray, but Michalek escaped without either a suspension or a fine.

There has been precedent for discipline on such plays.

Carolina's Jeff Skinner and Anaheim's Bobby Ryan both earned two-game suspensions for similar incidents in the past.
