Sakic sits out for Avalanche
ESPN.com news services

LOS ANGELES – Joe Sakic, Colorado's captain and top scorer, was scratched from Game 4 of the Avalanche's playoff series against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night because of a sore right shoulder.

Sakic, the NHL's second-leading scorer this season, did skate this morning and his status was a game-time decision.

Sakic sat out practice on Tuesday. He was injured when he was checked into the boards early in the first period of Colorado's 4-3 victory Monday night.

Sakic, who had 54 goals and 64 assists in the regular season, said he expected to be able to go in the fourth game.

The Avalanche hold a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference semifinal.

Meanwhile, forward Dave Reid will be back in the lineup Wednesday.

Reid suffered a broken jaw in Game 2 in Denver on Saturday when he was hit in the face by a puck fired by Avalanche defenseman Ray Bourque.

Reid underwent surgery Saturday afternoon to have a titanium plate inserted into his jaw.

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.
