DENVER Colorado Avalanche center Peter Forsberg was
released from the hospital Monday, four days after having emergency
surgery to remove his ruptured spleen.
Forsberg, a six-time All-Star, was Colorado's leading scorer
with four goals and 10 assists in the first two rounds of the
playoffs. He was hospitalized early Thursday after complaining of
stomach pain following Colorado's Game 7 victory over the Los
Angeles Kings.
Tests revealed a ruptured spleen and internal bleeding,
prompting surgery. Forsberg is expected to make a full recovery and
return for next season.
Without Forsberg, the Avalanche beat the St. Louis Blues 4-1 in
the first game of the Western Conference finals. Game 2 was Monday
night.
