Wings win Game 3's battle of wills

ESPN's Bill Clement breaks down Detroit's 3-2 win in triple overtime over the Hurricanes in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals:

To me, it's amazing that Carolina is able to stand up and do things defensively against Detroit and look so confident doing it. I never would accuse them of sitting back. At some point you have to give the Detroit Red Wings some credit for backing people off because they just come at you in waves.

Carolina has done a remarkable job of making the Red Wings look like a real ordinary team skill-wise. The Detroit Red Wings, if anything, were able to match Carolina's patience. This to me this is as big a test for Detroit as it is for Carolina. Detroit has to match the Hurricanes' patience, dump the puck in (which they don't like to do because they're a puck possession team) and they have to brace themselves for physical games all the time. It's an interesting contrast in styles. It's almost a battle of wills to see who can impose their style on the other team. Carolina has been doing a pretty good job of disrupting Detroit.

Detroit deserved to win this game. The Wings had better scoring chances. Carolina just hung in there. What's amazing to me is I thought Carolina was dead in the first overtime period, and the 'Canes came back to life. It was amazing how they stabilized. The second overtime was even and the third overtime was even. It was a bizarre hockey game.
