Little beginnings The story goes like this: Patrick Roy wanted to be a goalie from a very young age. At home, he strapped pillows to his knees for pads. But at first, the idea met with resistance on the ice. Roy was told he was too small. However, he persevered and got his chance a year later. According to Roy, he won his first game -- by a 2-0 shutout no less. Humble beginnings: It was a novice game being played on one-third of the ice surface with no boards. But you have to start somewhere.
