The Calgary Flames have signed coach Bob Hartley to a multiyear contract extension, the club announced.
Hartley's current deal was due to expire after the season.
The Flames hired Brad Treliving as their new general manager last summer and he wanted time to get to know Hartley and how he operated before deciding to go ahead with a new contract for a coach he inherited.
Hartley was named head coach of the Flames in the summer of 2012. He's gone 71-79-13 during the past three years, a period in which the club commenced a rebuilding process which is still underway.
