Avs' Liles will replace Gill

OTTAWA -- Hal Gill of the U.S. team will miss the rest of
the World Cup of Hockey because of a broken left foot suffered in
Monday's exhibition game.

Gill, of the Boston Bruins, was injured during the 3-1 win
against Canada in Columbus, Ohio. John-Michael Liles of the
Colorado Avalanche will take Gill's spot. Liles led NHL rookie
defensemen in goals (10) and assists (24).

Gill joins three other key defensemen lost by the defending
champion U.S. team. Detroit Red Wings star Derian Hatcher, his
teammate Mathieu Schneider and Jordon Leopold, a key part of
Calgary's Stanley Cup run this spring, are also injured.

On Wednesday, Paul Martin of the New Jersey Devils was added to
replace Leopold.
