COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Anaheim forward Matt Cullen was removed from the roster for the 2001 U.S. men's national hockey team as USA Hockey added the final eight players Thursday.
Cullen was on the list of 16 players selected on April 11, but he recently underwent wrist surgery.
Forwards Doug Brown (Detroit), Jeff Halpern (Washington) and Derek Plante (Philadelphia) were added to the list after their teams were eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Other USA Hockey selections include Craig Darby (Montreal), Mike Knuble (Boston), Ryan Kraft, of the American Hockey League's Kentucky Thoroughblades, and Brian Gionta, who recently completed his senior season at Boston College.
Rounding out the defensive corps is Carolina's David Tanabe.
The team will compete in the 2001 International Ice Hockey Federation men's world championship, April 28-May 13 in Hannover, Cologne, and Nuremburg, Germany.
Team USA begins preliminary-round play on April 28 against Ukraine. The United States also faces Latvia on April 30 and Sweden on May 2 before the start of the qualification round on May 4-8. The final rounds will be played May 10-13.
