SASKATOON, Saskatchewan -- Three-time world champion Alexei Yagudin of Russia won the men's short program in Skate Canada on Thursday night.
Yagudin and second-place finisher Emanuel Sandhu of Canada successfully executed quad-triple combos to top the field entering the final free skate Saturday.
Former world champions Elvis Stojko of Canada and Todd Eldredge of the United States failed to complete the required combos, with Stojko placing third and Eldredge fourth. American Johnny Weir was eighth.
In pairs, Canada's Jamie Sale and David Pelletier won the short program. The world champions are coming off a victory last week in Skate America in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Russia's Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin were second, followed by China's Qing Pang and Jian Tong and Canada's Anabelle Langlois and Patrice Archetto.
Americans Stephanie Kalesavich and Aaron Parchem were fifth, followed by compatriots Danielle and Steve Hartsell. In ice dancing, Canada's Shae-Lynn Bourne and Victor Kraatz led Isreal's Galit Chait and Sergei Sakhnovski after the compulsory dance.
