PARK CITY, Utah -- Brady Canfield and Tristan Gale won qualifying races Friday for the U.S. Olympic skeleton team.
Canfield won the men's race with a combined two-heat time of 1 minute, 38.65 seconds. Gale won the women's race in 1:41.63.
Both the men and women have one more qualifying race to determine the third and final Olympic spot for the men and the sole guaranteed spot for a woman.
Gale, who has won two of three qualifiers so far, leads the women's standings heading into Sunday's race. Brian McDonald -- who was second to Canfield on Friday -- is atop the men's standings.
Jim Shea and Chris Soule already have locked up berths on the men's team thanks to their performance on the World Cup circuit.
There could be a second women's Olympic berth if the United States finishes ahead of Switzerland in the World Cup standings. That won't be determined until the final competition Jan. 17.
In Friday's men's race, McDonald finished in 1:38.76, with Lincoln DeWitt third in 1:39.01.
Lea Ann Parsley was second to Gale in 1:41.79, followed by Colleen Rush in 1:41.83. |
