Kelly, seven others die in avalanche

ESPN.com news services

Former pro snowboarder Craig Kelly, a four-time world champion, was killed Monday in an avalanche on the Durrand Glacier near Revelstoke, British Columbia.

A total of eight people died in the avalanche.

Kelly was 36 years old. Kelly's career had evolved into backcountry guiding where he was based primarily in British Columbia.

Kelly, an institution in snowboarding, was the namesake of one of the first pro model Burton boards. And last year Kelly received the Tranny Award, which is presented by TransWorld Snowboarding for lifetime achievement in the sport.
