BIRMINGHAM, England -- Terrence Trammell injured his hamstring in the heats of the 60-meter dash and pulled out of the hurdles at the World Indoor Championships on Friday.
Trammell was leading midway through the dash, but pulled up seven meters before the finish and limped across the line, failing to qualify for the next round. He left the track holding the back of his right thigh.
U.S. team manager Tim Weaver said Trammell had withdrawn from the 60 hurdles, which was scheduled to be run Saturday.
"He's out,'' Weaver said. "The hamstring injury is serious enough that he has to pull out.''
The injury ended Trammell's bid to become the first athlete to win both the 60 dash and hurdles at the worlds.
"The back of my hamstring feels sore,'' said Trammell, the Olympic silver medalist in 110 hurdles. "I really need to get some ice on it. I am not worried about what will happen in the hurdles. Right now, I want to get this (hamstring) right.''
Greece's Yeoryios Theodoridis finished first in the 60 heat in 6.65 seconds. Trammell's time of 6.77 was well off his season best of 6.45.
