MANRESA, Spain -- Spain's Oscar Freire won the fifth leg of the Tour of Catalonia on Friday in a sprint finish, while Roberto Heras retained the overall lead.
Freire finished the 100-mile leg between Llivia and Manresa in 3 hours, 46 minutes and 37 seconds.
At the finish line, he beat out Spain's Angel Vicioso and Austria's Rene Haselbacher.
Roberto Heras of the U.S. Postal Service team has a nine-second lead over Jose Antonio Pecharroman. Heras rides for the same team as Lance Armstrong, who is not in this race and will be going for his fifth straight Tour de France title next month.
The seven-stage race ends Sunday. |
