STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker's 18 points led France past Russia 76-69 Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the European Basketball Championship. Larry Bird presented Parker with the game MVP award. France (4-0) will play defending champion Serbia and Montenegro or Lithuania in the semifinals. France, which never has won the European title, led Russia by 15 with four minutes left. But Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko led a 11-0 run for the Russians that made it 70-66.
Kirilenko's 3-pointer made it 73-69 with less than a minute left, but Russia never got closer. Boris Diaw, drafted by the Atlanta Hawks, scored 14 points for France, while the Toronto Raptors' Jerome Moiso had 12. Kirilenko led Russia with 22 points. |
