HAMBURG, Germany -- German pole vaulter Tim Lobinger apologized for dropping his shorts during the World Athletics Final before a crowd that included members of Monaco's royal family. Lobinger said Saturday he sent a fax to track and field's governing body. "I don't think it's the end of the affair, but now I am waiting for the reaction of the IAAF," he said. The IAAF threatened to dock the flamboyant pole vaulter $5,000 of his prize money. The German federation also might discipline him. Lobinger dropped his shorts Sept. 13 during a victory lap after winning his event at the Monte Carlo meet. |
