Shealy tested positive for amphetamines

Associated Press

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Pole vaulter Chase Shealy was barred from competition for two years after testing positive for amphetamine during a competition.

Shealy, 18, of Cayce, S.C., tested positive at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 21, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said Tuesday. He had taken a prescription medication that contained amphetamine, the agency said.

Shealy had been on a provisional suspension since the positive test. His suspension will expire June 22, 2005. He also forfeited a second-place finish at the June 21 meet.

International rules bar amphetamines during competition but not at other times.
