No word on rescheduling

Associated Press

ST. MORITZ, Switzerland -- Fog and strong wind wiped out a women's World Cup super giant slalom Sunday.

The International Ski Federation could not say when or if the race will be rescheduled.

Organizers planned to possibly lower the start. But because strong gusts and heavy fog affected the middle section of the Corviglia course, there was no option but to cancel the race.

"We made an early decision to allow people to leave for Christmas because they have been on the road a long time and there is no sense in keeping people around," organizing committee media officer Claudio Duschletta said.

Saturday's downhill and Sunday's race had been moved from their original location in the next valley. Lack of snow in Europe had upset the World Cup schedule the last month.

The women will next race a giant slalom and slalom in Lienz, Austria, on Dec. 27 and 28.
