Judo
In Judo, contestants are polite to one another. They politely bow and then proceed to throw their opponent forcefully to the mat.
Contestants wear a judogi, which is loose fitting pants and a jacket tied by a black belt.
Personal hygiene is also of importance in a match. Judokas must be free of body odor. And a manicure and pedicure might come in handy because they must have short fingernails and toenails.
A match can be won by a single point, which may be scored if one contestant throws his or her opponent to the mat so that the opponent's back strikes the canvas. If the throw is executed with perfect form, a point is awarded, and the match is over.
Judo means gentle way and was developed as a form of jujitsu. In the 2000 Games, men and women will compete in seven classes.
