ROME -- Italian cyclist Gabriele Bosisio has been suspended two years after testing positive for the banned blood-booster EPO.
The Italian Olympic Committee also fined Bosisio $12,791 and will require him to pay the cost of UCI testing. He will be eligible to return on Oct. 5, 2011.
The UCI announced in October that Bosisio failed a surprise doping control Sept. 2, after a blood test triggered an unusual profile within the biological passport program.
Bosisio, who wore the leader's pink jersey for a stage at the 2008 Giro d'Italia, has maintained his innocence. He rode for the LPR Brakes team that also included Danilo Di Luca, who was let go after testing positive during last year's Giro.
