ITTIGEN, Switzerland -- Swiss cyclist Thomas Frei has been banned for two years for doping with the banned blood-booster EPO.
Switzerland's Olympic committee said Wednesday that Frei was caught in an out-of-competition test in March and admitted doping on two other occasions.
Frei is suspended through April 21, 2012 and was ordered by the Swiss authority to pay $5,940 Swiss francs in fines and costs.
The 25-year-old rider left the United States-backed BMC Racing team when his doping was exposed.
Frei previously rode for the Kazakhstan-based Astana squad in the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
