Herb Brooks' memorabilia up for sale

Reliving the 'Miracle on Ice' (3:25)

Thirty-five years after the United States' stunning upset over the Soviet Union at the 1980 Winter Olympics, every living member of the U.S. squad reunited in Lake Placid, N.Y., to relive the game known as the "Miracle On Ice." (3:25)

The Miracle on Ice was a triumph years in the making under the careful, demanding and creative guidance of coach Herb Brooks.

Some of the documents that were part of that process are now for sale, along with a bunch of other belongings of the late hockey great.

Close to 40 lots of Brooks memorabilia will be auctioned off this weekend on the 35th anniversary of the United States' semifinal victory over the Soviet Union in the 1980 Winter Olympics.

His family decided to clear some space in their homes. They will put the money toward college for the Hall of Fame coach's now-teenage grandchildren and the Herb Brooks Foundation, created after his death in 2003 to increase youth opportunity in hockey.
