U.S. field hockey cruises in Pan Am Cup

HAMILTON, Bermuda -- Tournament favorites Argentina and the United States enjoyed easy starts to the Pan American Cup field hockey tournament Saturday.

Argentina thumped Trinidad and Tobago 7-1, while the U.S. comfortably beat Jamaica 10-0.

The two highest-ranked teams are expected to meet in the final on Feb. 15, with the winner qualifying for next year's World Cup in Argentina.

Lauren Crandall and Rachel Dawson scored twice each for the U.S., which might have racked up a bigger total if not for some fine goalkeeping by Jamaica's Fayona Mullings.

The U.S. faces Chile on Sunday in a game that will likely decide who wins Pool B.

Argentina's Noel Barrionuevo scored a hat trick, while Blair Wynne earned Trinidad's goal.

Chile beat Mexico 6-1, while Canada beat host Bermuda 10-0.
