Muggers take camera, cellphones during cycling test

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazilian officials say a team of photographers on contract to Rio's city government was mugged while covering a road cycling test event for next year's Olympics.

The Rio state security secretariat said in a statement that no one was injured in Sunday's incident, which saw the thieves make off with a camera and cellphones.

A report on the G1 website said two armed men on a motorcycle targeted the five-member team in Rio's western Barra da Tijuca neighborhood early Sunday morning as it prepared to cover the race. The muggers didn't take a video camera only because the team member holding it wasn't yet in place, the report said.

The cycling event stretched over 102 miles in western Rio and its suburbs.
