NBA free agent Thon Maker is among six players cut from the Australia's Olympics squad as the battle for tickets to Tokyo heats up.
The squad of 19 Boomers players was announced on Thursday, with Maker, Deng Adel, Mitch McCarron, Will McDowell-White, Will Magnay, and Mitch Norton all missing after being named in the original squad of 24.
Brisbane Bullets star Nathan Sobey missed the initial selection when it was released in February but he was later added by Boomers coach Brian Goorjian and has survived the latest cut.
The latest squad will take part in a selection camp and matches in the United States later this month, before the final Olympic team of 12 is named in July.
NBA star Ben Simmons is the biggest name in the Boomers squad, but it remains unclear if he will play at the Olympics.
The final team of 12 will participate in exhibition matches against the United States, Nigeria and Argentina in Las Vegas as a final hit-out before departing for Tokyo.
Maker has been searching for a new NBA home since being axed by the Cleveland Cavaliers in January.
Magnay notched three minutes of action for the New Orleans Pelicans earlier this year before joining the Perth Wildcats before the NBL finals.
Adel was a marquee signing for the Illawarra Hawks but was released by the NBL club in May after an injury-laden stint.
Goorjian said he has a squad capable of taking out gold in Tokyo.
"Having so many talented players is fantastic but it will certainly make for a challenging selection process," he said.
"The fact that a number of first-time aspiring Boomers are pushing for selection to the ultimate international stage is testimony to the great depth of talent in Australian basketball.
"It will be great to have the group together to push each other, the focus of our experienced Olympians has been unbelievable and we won't shy away from the fact that we are chasing gold in Tokyo."
The Boomers' Games campaign begins on Jul. 25.
