Anna Pavlova of Russia took bronze.
Hatch, a former national champion in Cuba, qualified for the
Olympics in 1996 but wasn't able to go because of financial
restraints in the country.
She moved to the United States and got married. Then, after a
five-year retirement, Hatch resumed her gymnastics career in 2001.
She was named to the U.S. Olympic team this year as a vault
Retton also won silver on vault in the 1984 Olympics, following
her victory in the all-around.
U.S. gets silver, bronze in uneven bars
Americans Terin Humphrey and Courtney Kupets took the silver and bronze medals on uneven bars Sunday,
giving the United States its sixth and seventh gymnastics medals of
the Athens Olympics.
Humprhey and Kupets joined Annia Hatch, who won silver on the
vault, as medalists in Sunday's event finals. The Americans also
won silver medals in both team competitions and golds in both
The seven medals are the most for the United States in a
nonboycotted Olympics since 1932. In the boycotted 1984 Games, the
Americans won 16.
Tampakos wins gold on rings
ATHENS, Greece -- Gymnast Dimosthenis Tampakos of Greece won
the gold medal Sunday on the rings with a score of 9.862.
Jordan Jovtchev of Bulgaria won the silver medal with 9.850.
Yuri Chechi of Italy won the bronze with 9.812.
