Records fall at Russian meet

MOSCOW -- New world records for the women's 50-meter backstroke and women's 50-meter breaststroke were set Tuesday at the Russian summer swimming championships.

Anastasia Zueva of Russia set the 50-meter backstroke by clocking 27.48 seconds during a preliminary heat. The 18-year-old shaved 0.19 seconds off the mark set by Australia's Sophie Edington in March last year in Sydney.

Fellow Russian Yuliya Efimova set a world
record of 30.23 seconds in the 50-meter breaststroke during the semifinals. She
bettered the mark of 30.45 clocked by Australia's Jade Edmistone at the 2005 world championships in Montreal.
