| Great Outdoor Gamebook Overview If you know very little about the events at the upcoming Great Outdoor Games, this is the place to start. Check out a preview of what you should expect to see at Lake Placid. Jigger Chop - 56.6 | ISDN | T1 Sure to be a crowd favorite at this summer's Great Outdoor Games will be the two-board jigger chop. Fashioned after the American Springboard, competitors will use a long-tongued board to scale an upright log, chop half of the log, climb back down, go back up the other side and finish the job. Retreiver Trials - 56.6 | ISDN | T1 Participating in the Retreiver Trials at next summer's Great Outdoor Games will be long time handler Larry McMurray and his dog Pepper. After some "wagon-wheel" excercises and some hard-core training, Pepper is ready to shine. "Bring 'em on," says McMurray. We can compete with anyone." Retriever Trials Overview Retrieval Trials Strategy The Speed Climbing competition, part of the Timber events at next summer's Great Outdoor Games, pits two competitors against one another in a race to the top of a 65-ft. pole. But that's not all. The race isn't complete until they come back down. The freefall, if not practiced and trained for carefully, can be extremely dangerous. Men's Endurance Within the Timber events at next summer's Great Outdoor Games will be the Men's Endurance competition. Some of the most talented individuals in the country are preparing themselves both physically and mentally to participate in three grueling events: the Underhand Chop, Standing Chop, and Single Buck. The competitor with the lowest cumulitive time will be declared the winner. Hot Saw Mike Sullivan - Hot Saw In the Hot Saw competition, sawyers race to make three cuts; one down, one up and another down. It all comes down to the operator and his ability to avoid any kind of mechanical failure. According to Mike Sullivan, the competition is fierce and the Great Outdoor Games gold medal is up for grabs. Team Relay Dave Bolstad - Relay In the Relay, part of the TimberEvents competition, competitors saw and chop their way around various stations, one of which is the underhand chop. Dave Bolstad, considered to be one of the world's best, will be among those competing at the Great Outdoor Games. Run, Roll and Drive This event, which will make its Great Outdoor Games debut at Lake Placid, is divided into three parts -- Boom Run, Log Roll and River Drive. Fancy footwork and solid technique will be key in the Log Rolling portion of the event. Bass Fishing Patterns Bass Fishing Lures The best professional anglers in the world will take part in this two-day event in search of the largest catch and a first-place finish. Fly Casting Judging Here's your chance to find out how the Fly Casting event will work at Lake Placid. One Fish Tournament One Fish Judging One Fish Training Each fly fisherman will have a three-hour window to compete, and only the biggest catch will count. Each fisherman competes only until he catches the one fish that he feels will win the competition for him. Competitor Profile -- Jamie Cogar Most of the competitors in the timber-related events have timber-related jobs -- but not Jamie Cogar, who practices law in West Virginia. Shotgun Competition Competitor Profile -- Linda Joy One of the competitors in the shooting competition, Linda Joy discusses her love of the sport and the format at the Great Outdoor Games. | ||||||
