Jim and Donna Tyree of Austin, Texas, may be the perfect couple. They married January 1, 2010 in San Augustine, Texas, and had their reception on the shores of Toledo Bend, in Hemphill, Texas, where they recently purchased five acres for retirement. However, they saved the most exciting part of their marriage the honeymoon for bass fishing's biggest event, the Bassmaster Classic.
They may also have the best smiles in the Lone Star State. Donna, 42, works for an orthodontist, while Jim, 52, is a dentist.
"We met at a dental party, so we kind of have teeth going for us," Donna said. However, teeth are a far cry from their true passion bass fishing. "A few months after we met we joined our first bass club as a team. We've done that now for about eight years, fishing local tournaments with a club called Mr. and Mrs. Bass Club."
The Tyrees are no strangers to BASS events.
"We went to the Elite event the first time they came to Amistad, and it was one of the best times of our lives," she said. "We had such a good time out there. That's why it was such an easy decision to do this for our honeymoon.
"I was going to surprise Jim, but I had to tell him. He's absolutely beside himself. We're really excited," she said. "We've been together a really long time and waited to get married until the kids were grown so we could make the marriage all about us, and the Classic is the perfect place to have our honeymoon. We're really excited to continue on this journey together starting at the Classic."
The Tyrees plan on taking in the whole Classic experience. They'll be staying adjacent to the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex, attending the Expo and weigh-ins.
"As soon as we found out where it (the Classic) was going to be, we booked a room as soon as possible," she said. "We had that booked even before we booked the reception!"
