Thirty years later, not much has changed since the 1972 Olympic gold-medal game in men's basketball. The Americans still believe they were robbed, the Russians still think the U.S. team has never given them their proper due for the victory. Either way, the story makes for great theater, and Page 2's Eric Neel says that's what makes the new HBO documentary, ":03 From Gold," so compelling.

World Cup Diary Jim Caple
Oh, those Italians! They're better actors than soccer players, and it's preferable in the World Cup if the opposite is true, says Page 2's diarist Michael Davies. Our Englishman also uses the off-day to revise his initial Power Rankings and to apologize (sort of) for brutalizing a favorite website.
Though they probably never met the man, a lot of people felt like they had lost a close friend when Jack Buck died Tuesday. That's what can happen, says Page 2's Jim Caple, when you invite a "stranger" into your home or your car on a hot summer night to vividly describe what's happening to your favorite baseball team.

THE SPORTS GUY
Other golfers cower in his presence. Beautiful women flock to his side. Fortune 500 companies fawn over him. Yet for all the awe Tiger Woods inspires, there's something missing, says Page 2's Bill Simmons. El Tigre is definitely an all-time great, but unlike Ali or MJ, he's charisma-challenged.

8]  49ers over Broncos (Super Bowl XXIV)
"That was the championship?!"

UNDISPUTED CHAMP
Forget Lennox, the Wings and the Lakers. The real undisputed champ of sports is Tiger Woods, and R-Dub says that ain't going to change any time soon.

ARMOR-ALL
Jim Caple wonders who's worse -- a pitcher who throws at batters' heads, or a slugger who wears body armor?

REEL LIFE
Jeff Merron chalks his cue and racks up "The Hustler" DVD to see just how real this classic pool movie is.

THE WATER COOLER
Here's to you, Nu Yawk! Page 2's Brian Murphy raises his glass to toast the gallery at Bethpage for the U.S. Open.

CUP DIARY
Our man at the World Cup gives a testimonial for the Michael Davies diet and is inspired by the U.S. team's phenomenal victory over Mexico.

Even the folks back in Hanover, Ind., have got to admit that Braves infielder Keith Lockhart, left, looks a lot like actor Woody Harrelson. Page 2 has received four requests for this match. Browse our archives of past pairs or click here to submit a future duo for Page 2.
